Barbecue fundraiser to be held for fire victims Event Bonte Foods/Chris Brothers to host event on Sept. 20 for those affected by apartment fire Bonte Foods/Chris Brothers located at 615 Champlain St. will hold a barbecue fundraiser for the residents who were affected by the devastating apartment fire at 487 Champlain St. The event had originally been scheduled for this Saturday, but will now take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, in order to give the company extra time to prepare. The company will have pizza by the slice, hotdogs and beverages available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with proceeds benefiting residents displaced by the fire. The company will also be collecting clothing, kitchen aids, small appliances (but not stoves or fridges), furniture and any cash donations. All donated money and materials will be handed over to Blankets for Moncton ( BlanketsforMoncton), who will be responsible for distribution on an as-needed basis. Company donations of any kind are welcome as well. Mike Whittaker is president of Bonte Foods/Chris Brothers. Five company employees lived in the apartment complex at 487 Champlain St., which on Aug. 31, suffered significant structural, water, smoke and fire damage. All residents of the 32-unit four-storey building were displaced, and many, including the Bonte/ Chris Brothers employees, lost all their possessions. In the aftermath, the business gave each of the five employees $1,500, free cab transportation for the week, counselling and time off from work. Event location is at Bonte Food, 615 Champlain St, Saturday Sept 20th 10am to 3pm.
