Barely two months in Los Angeles and Im a legit mass-shooting survivor. Left home at 6am to meet up with my 8:10am flight to Philadelphia. Flight got delayed; first by an hour, and then an added hour and ten minutes. The mild buzz of departure lounge activity was interrupted by gunshot sounds at approximately 9:30am. A gunman had broken into Terminal 3, my departure terminal, and opened fire. Airport officials kicked into action, directing panicking travelers towards an exit that lead to the tarmac. We were there for a while, helicopters flying over our heads, sirens blaring, as some people called loved ones over the phone to relay what had occurred. A few minutes later, airport shuttle arrived to transport everyone to a holding room while investigations commenced. The American Red Cross arrived to provide food and water a few hours after the lockdown. At about 3:00pm, passengers for terminals 1 & 2 were released amid applause, while passengers for terminal 3, the crime scene had to remain. About an hour after that, we were told that activities at terminal 3 would not be resuming anytime soon as it was still under investigation. After making enquiries on checked-in luggage and getting skeptical responses, I went out to meet the backlog of traffic that the airport lockdown had created. Finally got back to my apartment at 8-ish luggageless... I still dont know how thats gonna go... and then the Lakers lost their game... Just incase you wondered how my day went yesterday.
