Barrie Baycats 4; Brantford Red Sox 1 (10) BRANTFORD – Chris Kemlo allowed just one earned run over 10 innings pitched as the Barrie Baycats claimed a 4-1 victory over the Brantford Red Sox in game one of the IBL championship series on Thursday night. Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday night at 7pm at Schmidt and Shaw Stadium in Barrie. Kemlo was a rock for the Baycats, allowing just six hits with three walks with five strikeouts over his complete game effort. It was the Baycats who opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the fifth inning, before the Red Sox tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Jordan Castaldo started off the tenth inning with a double, and would later score what proved to be the game winning run on a single by Jason Coker. With the bases loaded and one out, Brantford pitcher Tom Boleska walked in a run to put the Baycats up 3-1, then Jeff Cowan completed the scoring on a Jonathan Fernandez sacrifice fly. Castaldo had a big night at the plate for Barrie, including a single, a pair of doubles and a run score, accounting for three of Barrie’s eight hits on the night. Kevin Atkinson and Ryan Asis each had a hit and a run scored, while Coker and Fernandez each registered a hit and an RBI in the win. ‘ Boleska took the loss, allowing four hits and three earned runs with two walks over two innings pitched after coming on to start the seventh inning, replacing starter Jamie Richmond. Six different Red Sox accounted for the club’s six-hit performance, including Wayne Forman with a hit and an RBI, and Jeff Hunt with a hit and a run scored.
