Bartimaeus was a blind beggar who experienced Jesus’ love in an unexpected way. We, too, need to remain sensitive to God’s activity in and around us. That way, we can be sure to not miss what He has planned for our lives. Jesus asked Bartimaeus, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Bartimaeus was not only blind, he was impoverished. There have always been those born blind whom providence has put in loving affluent homes, whose parents have cared for them, and encouraged their education so that they have risen to the highest positions of responsibility. Like Bartimaeus, Jesus wants you to tell Him what you need. Nobody is insignificant in the eyes of God. He wants to speak to you because He loves you and desires a personal, intimate relationship with all His children. The Savior values everyone, including the disabled. He sees their impairments not as an indication of sinfulness, but as a chance for His Father’s power to be revealed. The most important thing about Bartimaeus was that he was a man in the image of God. He’d heard about Jesus of Nazareth. He heard all this with his keen sense of hearing. Bartimaeus took seriously the hearsay of many conversations and put together all the information he’d gathered, these wonderful sayings and deeds. once he heared that jesus is passing by and force himself to be heard and many tried to talk him down but at last the Lord heard him and called for him. Bartimaeus had a very strong faith that Jesus will change His condition and by faith he was able to see with his eyes for the first time ever since He was born. This is the first step in coming to Jesus for your own salvation. You must recognize who He is and know that what He has done in the lives of others, He can do for you. Our duty is to accept what the Bible teaches about Jesus. When we do, we can be certain of salvation. Salvation is based on the faith of Jesus. Mark 10:46-52New International Version (NIV) Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight 46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
