Barwon-Darling Water Cup round six senior press release: Dateline: Monday, June 17, 2013 A classic top-of-the-table clash has been set up next weekend between the undefeated Walgett and second-placed Goodooga after both clubs won interesting Barwon-Darling Water Cup round six rugby league senior matches over the weekend. However, respective round six losers Bourke and Enngonia both fired a few blows over the weekend with Warriors president Stephen Howarth declaring the reigning BDRL senior champions are still a premiership threat after their 42-30 loss to Walgett at Davidson Oval on Sunday (June 16). Enngonia also competed well against the Magpies before going down 46-28 at Enngonia Sportsground on Saturday (June 15). Les Boney scored another hat-trick for the Outlaws and his halves partner Jeremy Edwards continued his good form with a double but triples to Clayton Wood and Cecil Hooper helped get Goodooga home. Magpies prop Phillip Collis took the three best and fairest points. Enngonia hooker and coach Paul Kelly said the Outlaws’ forward pack all toiled well and that Boney was his side’s best. “We tried hard and went well but Goodooga has a pretty good side,” Kelly said. He added Goodooga got on top out wide with some speedy backs and that Enngonia will be working hard on their ball skills and fitness this week ahead of an important match against Newtown at No 1 Oval, Walgett next Sunday. Both Newtown and Enngonia are on four competition points and the winner of their round seven match will jump into the vital fourth spot. Meanwhile, Howarth was upbeat after his side’s 12-point loss to Walgett. Form points to the Dragons dominating this year’s competition as Willie Wright’s side has scored 260 points and conceded just 96 on the way to six successive wins this season. But the Bourke president believes his side sitting in third place on the table and the fact they won the second half against Walgett means they are capable of holding onto their 2012 title. “Full credit to Walgett ... but we are still in premiership contention,” Howarth said. Howarth said Walgett’s “big three” in lock Richard Dennis, fullback Louis Murphy and five-eighth Wright all starred for the Dragons. Dennis produced his fifth best on ground effort this season while Wright scored 14 points and Murphy bagged yet another try. For Bourke, prop and skipper Peter Mackay led the forwards with a big game while halfback Dwayne Johnson, James Frazer and Gil Sutton also caught the eye while regular fullback Todd Prince played strongly when moved up to five-eighth. The Warriors’ next match is an important one against Enngonia at Enngonia on Saturday, June 29. Newtown had the bye. Next weekend’s matches have been swapped. Goodooga and Walgett will meet on the Saturday (June 22) at Magpie Park while Newtown and Enngonia meet at No 1 Oval on the Sunday (June 23). Bourke has the bye.
