Based in Washington, DC, the American Public Health Association (APHA) champions the health of all people and communities. The organization works to strengthen the profession of public health; create understanding, engagement and support for key public health issues and influence public policy to improve health globally. The APHA is currently holding its 142nd annual conference in New Orleans. There are more than 12,000 attendees participating in over 1,000 sessions and discussions. A wide range of issues related to the health of African Americans and other minorities are being discussed, from the current outbreak of Ebola and AIDS to mental health and domestic violence.
