Based on the novel by Joe Hill, Horns is a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery and romance. The film follows Ig Perrish, the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin. Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realizes their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses - an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriends tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer (IMDB). I didn’t know what to think of the concept of “Horns”, especially seeing that is was a novel I never heard of, so I watched it with an open mind. Although very fantasy based and at times, quite odd, “Horns” delivered something that other movies fail to do… originality. I always feel weird watching Harry Potter playing other characters but he has proven time after time that he doesn’t want that stigma to follow him like it has other character actors such as Urkel. That being said, Harry Potter nails the Ig character, demonstrating the various emotions he is going through while discovering everyone around him deepest, darkest secrets. “Horns” is a strange, yet intriguing and entertaining picture that offers fantasy and humor with a twist of thriller and mystery. I think people will either really like “Horns” or really dislike it. In my case, I enjoyed it and was surprisingly entertained from beginning to end. RATED R RUNTIME: 2hr and 3min
