Based on the numbers, my candidate lost tonight. Im disappointed - - TopicsExpress

Based on the numbers, my candidate lost tonight. Im disappointed - but not in my candidate or the effort of his supporters. Im disappointed in the system, and Im disappointed in the MSGOP. Leading up to the general election, there was no attempt to seek Democrat votes in the Republican Primary. However, over the past 3 weeks there was a clear attempt to get Democrats to vote for Thad Cochran (that is a fact), and he won by just over 6,000 votes. There were at least that many votes from Democrats that will vote for Childers in November; to think otherwise is being naive if you look at the numbers and account for traditional Republican turnout in the counties. Look at Hinds County, and Coahoma County...and others. Those 6,000 votes are there. Im not saying that to be sour - even though Ill be accused of that. Perhaps Thad supporters would feel the same if McDaniel had openly courted Democrats (though he would not have done that). I just know that I talked to a lot of people tonight that worked hard for their candidate only to feel like the election was won by non-Republican voters. Thats a tough pill to swallow - and I dont think it is a pill that will be swallowed without a fight. And for the gloaters - those folks congratulating Mississippi and openly insinuating that Mississippi staved off embarrassment, please reserve those remarks. Our party is in an odd and fragile situation right now, and there is no room for enjoying the spoils here. Based on the numbers over half of conservative Republicans voted for Chris McDaniel, and he somehow lost the nomination. The GOP cannot afford to emerge from this bitter primary without at least acknowledging this election as a mandate from conservatives that the party must move back to the right - and back to its conservative base. That has to happen. In church several weeks ago, the message was this: If people know what you are for, then they will know what you are against. That same thing is true for our party - and the lines of what the Republican party stands for were blurred by the incumbents supporters lately. The Republican Party must stanfd for conservative values and fiscal responsibility or risk falling in line with the true adversaries. So please, keep that in mind before deciding to relish in Thads triumph over the conservative-backed candidate. Ill pay the same courtesy if some of Thads promises fall flat (I.e., saving our jobs, funding the LPD 28, voting against amnesty, serving a full term, etc.) Like I said earlier, I am not trying to be sour. In fact, Im not even mad. My ideals and my opinions are the same they have always been - and I proudly supported the candidate I felt best exemplified those ideals. And most of the time, my ideals are right in line with the Republican Party. But my attraction to the party lies in its conservative values - and without that, Im not sure what incentive I have to continue to support the party. I will, and I will vote for the Republican candidate in November - but its time for a shift back to the right. Thanks again to everyone for bearing with me the last few weeks. And I enjoyed the discussions and debates. Heres hoping the Republican candidate wins in November so we can go on to see Harry Reid thrown out as Majority Leader. At least we can all share that common goal.
