Based on what I heard on the WVOW news report, the mother of the newborn surrendered at LRMC contacted the Logan County Sheriffs Office after hearing they were trying to locate her. They wanted to confirm that the baby wasnt taken illegally, in retribution, or under duress and apparently the mother affirmed her intention to surrender the baby to a safe authority. Her identity will be protected. Now how COURAGEOUS was that on her part? That took guts......and a special form of love that I have not only by the grace of God, had to reach way down in my soul for ever in my lifetime. May God bless her for coming forward with courage and confidence to put the matter to rest and, in turn, move it forward for the baby to become settled in a loving home. Otherwise, it had the potential to play out for months or years in many arenas. Who really knows. We dont have these types of things happen very often in our community. But they sure do in large cities. I cannot imagine how she felt as dialed the telephone...... I do believe she was deeply committed to the baby having a better life than what she could provide for whatever unfortunate reason and I ADMIRE her for that decision. The easy road to take would have been to delay the inevitable by caving in to the pressure of family, friends, and society. She made a sound decision and saw it through to the finish. A big job well done goes to the Sheriff and her staff for protecting the baby, the rights of the mother, and then her identity as they closed the case. At the age of just one day old I can see why they would suspect other than a voluntary surrender. Lets lift them all....mother, baby, law enforcement, new family.....up in prayer. Lets think positive about the situation and not kick someone to death so to speak who is already down. People and families are hurting. Desperate. Our Social Services workers are stretched beyond thin and often their hands are legally tied. Our law enforcement live on the edge with rarely a moment to relax while on duty and they are witnessing firsthand horrific scenes when walking into environments that would haunt most of us for a lifetime. Hillary Clinton once wrote a book It Takes A Village regarding the upbringing of children. I had that village! It was a kinder, gentler time for sure. May we all be a prayerful part of such a village now.......
