Basel, 19 November 2014 – In October 2014, the volume of assets placed in the investment funds covered by the statistics compiled by Swiss Fund Data AG and Morningstar stood at some CHF 841 billion, an increase of nearly CHF 7 billion or 0.8% month-on-month. The volume of assets entrusted by investors in Switzerland to the fund industry came to CHF 841.3 billion in October 2014 (September 2014: CHF 834.9 billion). “The markets posted a fairly mixed showing in the month under review. Fund volumes increased slightly, breaking through the 840 billion barrier. Investors seem to be adopting something of a wait-and see stance, with inflows and outflows of assets at rather low levels. All in all, this resulted in a slight gain of just under CHF 400 million,” explained Markus Fuchs, Managing Director of the Swiss Funds & Asset Management Association SFAMA. By comparison, the figures for selected indexes in October 2014 were as follows (September 2014 in brackets): Dow Jones 2.04% (-0.32%), S&P 500 2.32% (-1.55%), EURO STOXX 50 -3.49% (1.68%), and SMI 0.03% (2.03%). The CHF gained 0.06% against the EUR, but lost 0.80% against the USD. A net total of around CHF 368.7 million in new money was invested in funds in October 2014. Bond funds attracted the highest inflows (CHF 458.9 million), followed by asset allocation funds (CHF 257.0 million) and the other funds category (CHF 206.1 million). The heaviest outflows were suffered by the alternative investments category (- CHF 295.4 million) and commodities funds (- CHF 242.8 million). There were no changes with regard to the most popular asset classes: equity funds 38.34%, bond funds 31.33%, asset allocation funds 12.27%, and money market funds 7.35%.
