Basic Cold Weather Vehicle Emergency Kit First and foremost, let Friends and Family know time and route you are taking from point A to point B. Always let someone know of any changes! Always stay with your Vehicle…NO MATTER WHAT! Start your vehicle only to warm up the inside of the Vehicle (MAKE SURE THE EXHAUST TAIL PIPE IS ALWAYS CLEAR) and always crack the windows for fear of exhaust fumes. Using candles inside the vehicle is fine as long as a window is cracked…this will provide light and some warmth. *Ration everything…Fuel, Candles, Water, and food. Utilize items in Emergency kit accordingly. List: -Water / Container to melt Snow or Ice Water is the most important thing to staying alive, in winter even if you do not have enough water already stored inside your vehicle, you can always melt what you need from outside, this is why having a metal can of some sort is invaluable -Energy bars (10) Eat them only to survive and NEVER eat them all at once -Matches Use these only on a need to basis -Emergency Candles Will provide comfort, light, and a little warmth when used correctly…Always crack a window and never fall asleep with one burning in your vehicle -Mitts (5 pairs) Hopefully these are in addition to vehicle occupants already winter clothing -Beanies (5) Again hopefully these are in addition to winter clothing already with vehicle occupants -Blankets Can offer warmth as well as traction under tires spinning in snow or ice -Shovel Used for digging around the tires for traction as well as making sure the tail pipe is clear of snow before starting the vehicle -First Aid Kit Used for any minor scraps and bruises -Flashlight Use only when necessary…Night, Flash Rescuers, and moving around the vehicle or potty breaks -Jumper Cables To either jump a dead battery or can actually be used to start a fire with the proper knowledge (some gasoline and dry material) create a spark, just exercise EXTREME caution -Flares Signal for help as well as Start a fire -Whistle Great for getting the attention of rescuers, much louder than screaming and can either save our voice or replace an already used hoarse voice -Mirror Used to signal either Planes or Helicopters by flashing them by moving the mirror back and forth -Emergency Radio -extra Batteries Get to know your equipment, maintain and utilize by rotating perishables, practice scenarios with family members and above all else, drive safely and try to avoid emergencies This is your basic Cold Weather Vehicle Emergency Kit Every family has different needs...adjust accordingly to your particular needs, this is what I have in all three of my vehicles ~Pineapple
