Basic Grammar: Group Nouns Group nouns (collective nouns) refer to a group of people, animals or things having a special relationship with one another (each other) for a particular reason: group, tribe, committee, government, pack, set, series, crowd, flock…..Group nouns like other nouns may be singular and plural: governments, sets, bunches….. Ex. the government of Cambodia the governments of Cambodia and Thailand Ex. a class of insects > few classes of insects Ex. a bunch of flowers > two bunches of flowers When you use group nouns, there is a choice of whether you use a singular verb or plural verb because a group noun itself can be singular and plural. ~Singular: when we treat the group as a whole one ~Plural: when treat the group as separate individuals Ex.
