Basic misunderstanding by Hamza Yusuf commenting on hadith of the prophet(saw) when he was asked what one should do when there is no imam and no polity, he advised to keep away from sects that call you to the hellfire. Yusuf concludes that the prophet(Saw) did not claim one should establish the khilafah so it is not needed. According to his logic, the prophet(saw) did not say pray, fast or obey your parents - so we can skip these things too? He did not say do not kill, fornicate or drink either, are these things fine too? He violates the basic notion of absence of evidence is no evidence, when the prophet(saw) does not say something, you cannot conclude something from that as you enter the realm of pure speculation that can go in many directions - one requires positive evidence to conclude something!
