Bassaka Air Makes Inaugural Flight Monday 27 October 2014 at 10.49am Bassaka Air flight 5B831 departed Phnom Penh International Airport for Macau. Flight 5B831 marked Bassaka’s inaugural flight. Numerous dignitaries and representatives from Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, and Cambodia Airports were present. H.E. KIM Sophorn under Secretary of State for the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and Mr. Joe Stecker, CEO of Bassaka Air presided over a ribbon cutting ceremony. In his remarks to the group Mr. Stecker had high praise for Bassaka’s employees. He said “I want to sincerely thank all Bassaka employees. We would not be standing here today . . . poised to cut this ribbon, without your dedication, personal sacrifices, and professional expertise that each and every one of you put into making this event a reality”. Mr. Stecker also had high praise for the SSCA in areas of its safety oversight auditing responsibilities. Mr. Stecker went on to say in his brief speech at the ribbon cutting ceremony that “the launching of Bassaka Air was a testimony to their faith in the Cambodian people, the economy, and the future of Cambodia. Cambodia’s economy, Stecker said, and in particular the tourism sector, is demonstrating not only impressive growth, but sustainable growth. These factors shall greatly contribute to our airline’s success.” There were approximately 100 specially invited guests onboard the flight to Macau. During the flight the guests were served red and white wine plus business class meals of beef or seafood with rice. In closing Mr. Stecker said Bassaka air was honored to become Cambodia’s newest airline and that they took this responsibility seriously. He assured everyone that Bassaka would always conduct itself in a professional manner and that Bassaka had initiated strict ongoing safety and training programs to insure safety will never be compromised in any way without exception.
