Battle-Bred Bats ... I sat through the first screening of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies at the 10:30 a.m. premiere screening at the Savoy Kino Hamburg ... nearly three hours ... waiting for C-3PO to make his entrance ... which is to say, waiting for the brilliant Anthony Daniels to steal each scene he is in from everyone else on the screen, even clad in golden droid armour. But he never appeared. And at some point it dawned on me, as CGI effects swirled in 3-D and sub-woofer booms shook the walls, that I must be in the wrong film. Germans have an expression for that: Ich kam mir vor wie im falschen Film ... It was as though I was in the wrong film. It is an idiomatic expression used when you just cant believe what you see going on all around you in real life. This time, however, I think I really was in the wrong movie. No C-3PO and no Anthony Daniels ... well, how could it be the right movie? But, as Quentin Crisp famously observed: Any movie ... even the worst ... is better than real life. So I sat through it to the bitter-sweet end. This trailer cunningly captures every line of dialogue spoken in the entire film. The rest was all blue-screen effects: https://youtube/watch?v=iVAgTiBrrDA
