Bawinile “Winnie” Tshabalala heads the God’s Enlightenment Co-op Project, a poultry venture that she set up with four other women. Unable to get a bank loan, she eventually got a US$900 loan from a non-profit organisation, Lima, to be repaid over five months. Unlocking Africa’s green revolution will require better access to credit. Although Winnie is repaying a loan, she has almost doubled her family’s income.
