Bayern Munich won their 24th German title The European and German champions have continued their dominance in the domestic league and are arguably even stronger than last season under Jupp Heynckes. The Bavarians, who are still on route to defend their treble, won the Bundesliga after just 27 games (record). They are the first ever team to claim the title with seven games to spare in Europe’s top leagues (ENG, SPA, GER, ITA, FRA, NED). Looking at the numbers behind this success, one neither knows where to stop nor where to start, but let’s give it a try: Bayern Munich coach, Pep Guardiola, has not yet lost a league match since taking over from Jupp Heynckes in the summer (W25 D2). Since October 2012, Bayern are unbeaten in 52 games and have recently broken Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ record. If they see the season out unbeaten, they will break AC Milan’s record of 58-games unbeaten (1991 to 1993) for Europe’s top-five leagues. Bayern have won their last 19 games in a row (record) as well as their last 10 consecutive away games (record). Whilst doing so, they have also scored two or more goals in each of their last 19 wins (record). Their Bundesliga start with 27-games unbeaten is the best in German history and they could become the first German side to go undefeated through an entire campaign. Following Tuesday’s 3-1 victory, the Bavarians sit on 77 points, which means they could still break their own record of 91 (set by themselves last year). In the game against Berlin, Bayern did win the title in record-breaking style as well. They had 1.215 touches on the ball, 1.078 passes and a possession of 77 percent (all records). With his 133 completed passes, Bayern captain, Phillipp Lahm, became the first player (with more than 20 passes) to have a pass accuracy of 100 percent (record). It’s no wonder that Bayern’s closest rival, Borussia Dortmund, was left speechless by the dominance of the German champions. Its unbelievable how you have demolished (the Bundesliga) because we see you, but actually need a telescope, said Dortmund coach, Juergen Klopp. This was a fantastic achievement, congratulations for the championship. Bayern will now try and defend their other two titles (German DFB Cup and Champions League) to complete the club’s second treble in its history.
