Bayern set to trim squad numbers Pep Guardiola will hold talks with Bayern Munich officials about reducing the numbers in his squad, Berlin paper tz has reported. The treble-winners currently have 28 squad players, and are likely to cut that number over the next few weeks. After the 2-0 friendly win over Barcelona earlier this week, sporting director Matthias Sammer hinted at imminent talks about the issue with Guardiola. It is likely that decisions will be made after the Bundesliga champions have played Borussia Dortmund – the team they beat in the Champions League final – in the German Supercup on Saturday. Possible candidates to leave include the Brazil international Luiz Gustavo, 25, as well as 19-year-olds Emre Can, Patrick Weihrauch and Mitchell Weiser. Wolfsburg have already indicated their interest in signing Gustavo, but he has vowed to stay at Munich and fight for his place. Midfielder Can has been linked with Eintracht Fankfurt and Turkish club Galatasary. With his contract expiring in 2014, Bayern are most likely to extend that deal before sending him out on loan. Weiser spent the second half of last season on loan at Kaiserslautern, while Weihrauch scored eight goals in 34 games for the reserves.
