Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge - GIWW MM 49.8 WHL - Repair Work - Barges Restrictions Starting 23 June The Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge on State Route 316 across the GIWW MM 49.8 WHL, near Bourg, Louisiana has been severely damaged as the result of a vessel allision. The pontoon will remain in the open position until repairs are complete. Due to the extent of the damage to the aprons and the support tower (concrete piles has significant cracking and spawling), this bridge will remain in the open position until December 31, 2014. A Safety Zone will be in place, beginning on June 23, 2014, for 45 days. This will allow construction and repairs to the damaged fender to take place. This work will not close the waterway but will restrict it to vessels and tows less than 40 feet wide. Repairs on the bridge will start 23 June and run for about 45 days during the following times and with the following restrictions: Weekdays from 6:00 A.M to 10:30: A.M. – restricted to 40’ wide tows Weekdays from 10:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.- Fully open to barge traffic, no width restriction Weekdays from 1:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. – restricted to 40’ wide tows Open all night, weekends and July 4 to navigation with no width restrictions.
