Be Careful Who You Get In Bed With, MEV… Still think MEV is working for you, abuse victims? MEV has now evidently aligned herself with A Shrink For Men, given the volume of their posts MEV is sharing and her recent lengthy wall conversation with them where she attempted (again) to justify her posting this summer of the video of the man recording his wife’s meltdown and posted it on the internet. Why is this a problem for MEV’s followers—abuse victims who are overwhelmingly female? Because A Shrink For Men, which offers an admittedly much-needed forum for men who are abused, has aligned itself with WAVE (Women Against VAWA Excess), which is an ardently Republican organization designed to prevent the passage of the 2013 Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Let’s say that again so it’s clear: Through her apparent alliance with A Shrink For Men and therefore WAVE, the “brains” behind MEV is sending the clear message that she either does not care about the Violence Against Women Act, or that she isn’t savvy enough to even know that she’s supporting those who want to make sure it is not easier for abused women to get protection, services, and justice. VAWA has been in place since 1994, and is up for a vote again this year. Thus far, VAWA has provided programs and services that include: • Federal rape shield law. • Community violence prevention programs • Protections for victims who are evicted from their homes because of events related to domestic violence or stalking • Funding for victim assistance services, like rape crisis centers and hotlines • Programs to meet the needs of immigrant women and women of different races or ethnicities • Programs and services for victims with disabilities • Legal aid for survivors of domestic violence …….Yes, that’s your MEV leader, at work (for you?) again.
