Be More Productive We all love the idea of working less and playing more...but how many of us can or are willing to do this? Taking time off or working less daily hours seems counter intuitive to being more productive but that is exactly what experts are now suggesting is the best way to increase productivity. Studies have shown that working in 90-minute time blocks maximizes our productivity. The benefits of working uninterrupted and then taking a break can give you more energy and help to avoid mental exhaustion. While most of us have set work hours, there are a few things we can do within those hours to help renew our energy and boost productivity: • Set a Timer / Take a Walk: Try working in 90 or even 60-minute time blocks (see what feels right to you) avoiding extraneous distractions or time-zappers. Set a timer so you don’t lose track of the time and then get out and take a brisk walk. • Schedule Lunch: Avoid getting trapped eating at your desk every day. Set aside at least one day a week to go out to lunch. • Work From Home: If at all possible, even for one day a week or month, to avoid rush-hour commutes and wasted hours. Make sure you continue to work in uninterrupted time blocks and take those breaks. • Relax: If only for 10-minutes, sit outside and avoid returning emails or calls. It will help rejuvenate you, reduce stress and tension, and help boost productivity. By scheduling time blocks and renewing your energy and performance levels throughout the day, it’s possible to get more done in less time. This can help you finish your work tasks quicker allowing you to actually leave on time or avoid taking stacks of unfinished work home with you. Even incorporating just one suggestion above during the course of your work week can help you avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed, possibly prevent you from getting burned out on your job, and ultimately lead to increased productivity.
