Be Weather aware over the next couple of days.... Based on the latest forecast information today, the NWS has gone ahead and highlighted a low-confidence chance of severe storms Tuesday through early Wednesday morning across ALL of Central Alabama. As we get closer to Tuesday, well refine the timing and threats accordingly, so check back often for the latest updates. Heres the extended details on the severe weather possibilities: A surface low pressure area will quickly strengthen and move northeastward across Mississippi Tuesday afternoon and evening with a trailing cold front. Out ahead of the front, a very warm and unstable airmass will quickly surge northward with increasing surface winds. As the cold front approaches Central Alabama, we’ll have ingredients necessary for severe storm development. Due to timing uncertainties, we’ve started with a wide timeframe for the possibility of severe storms, perhaps starting as early as 3pm in the west and lasting as late as 3am Wednesday morning in the east. The primary threats will be damaging straight-line winds, with tornadoes also possible. Right now the latest forecast information is trending towards a line of severe storms developing with embedded tornadoes possible within the line due to sufficient wind shear available. Now, this being said, the severe potential all depends on if all the ingredients are in place before the cold front moves into Central Alabama. One scenario that could prevent severe storm development is the development of clouds and rain during the day on Tuesday. That could prevent the air mass from becoming as unstable as models are currently indicating during the day on Tuesday, so this is currently a low-confidence forecast. Keep in mind that things will change, so make sure to check back often for the latest forecast updates!
