Be a part of our Autism Research Study! Early Development of Reciprocal Social Behavior This study is looking at the “building blocks” of social development in young children at risk for an autism spectrum disorder Overview of Autism Autism is a developmental disorder that affects approximately 1 in 68 children. Symptoms include difficulties in social development which can profoundly impact the ability to make friends and interact with peers. This disorder may also include language difficulties and restricted, narrow range of interests. Children with autism can range from severely cognitively impaired to gifted. What the Study Entails Washington University Social Developmental Studies Laboratory is looking for children who are 18-36 months old with an autism spectrum disorder, or any suspicion or risk of an autism spectrum disorder, to participate in this study of early childhood development. Families will be asked to answer questionnaires and complete diagnostic and cognitive assessments in the course of early childhood. Families will be compensated for their time. Risks are minimal and will be discussed as part of the informed consent process.
