Be careful of the definitions youre getting from your dictionary. Definitions are not a substitute for etymological back-tracing. For instance, THIS definition of violence is etymologically correct: behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Because it doesnt nullify the right to defense against violence. In defense, you do not intend to cause injury, you intend to prevent it. THIS is the new definition, according to Wikipedia and the World Health Organization: the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation. As you can see, it was cleverly worded to deprive people of the right to self defense. According to the WHO, if you have defended yourself, you are the cause of violence. This is the one most likely to be foisted upon you in a court of law (equity). The word Violence comes from the latin root verb Violare which is the same root for Violate. We all know what Violate means, there is no question as to what violation entails. Do unto others... You may not CAUSE violence. You may PREVENT violence. You may not VIOLATE. You may prevent violation. See, now it makes sense. Dont ever let them tell you otherwise.
