Be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you. -Ephesians 5:1-2 We are each born with a need to be loved. We may not always admit it or be able to articulate it, but our Creator God certainly knows this to be true. We long to be cared for and thought highly of. We are incapable of surviving on self-confidence alone. This is why God, knowing how unworthy we are to deserve anything but His banishment and wrath, has chosen through Christ to call us and treat us as beloved children. You may or may not have a hard time believing or receiving this fact, this gift. But if you have been rescued from the punishment of your sins by faith in the Lord Jesus, then look at how great a love the Father has given us (1 John 3:1)–the same heartfelt fondness that caused Him to say over His One and Only, You are my beloved Son. I take delight in You! (Luke 3:22). Beloved is not just a name God calls us; it is our new identity in eternity. Even now we are unconditionally loved by God. Thats who we are. Having been loved so lavishly by Him, how can we dare love our mates any less? Read Romans 9:21-26 and consider the mercy God has shown us. Those who repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus become Gods Beloved. Romans 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? 22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? 25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. 26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
