Be sure to stop in and see TC student Macy Ricketts beautiful pics and scientific captions from her summer research experience in Glacier (thanks to Martha Apple). Macy Ricketts Adventure is Out There: Photos of Glacier National Park climate change research through the eyes of a twenty-something. About the Photographer Macy Ricketts is a sophomore studying Molecular Biology and Technical Communication at MontanaTech in Butte. She spent the past summer working as a research assistant with Professor Martha Apple, Ph.D Botany, in Glacier National Park. Dr. Apple is part of the GLORIA (Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments) project, an international network of scientists studying rare alpine plants and climate change. Macy grew up in Livingston, Montana, where she was a feature writer for the local newspaper and became connected with the natural world on outings with her family. In her free time, Macy enjoys hiking, fly fishing and playing guitar. In this series of photographs, Macy shares with us the beauty of Glacier National Park, its fragility in the face of global climate change, and her scientific insightsinto the unique character of Glacier National Park—the “Crown Jewel of the Continent.” Acknowledgment Macy thanks the following Montana Tech faculty: Dr. Martha Apple, Professor of Biology, whose funding to support GLORIA made this amazing summer research experience possible; Nick Hawthorne, Assistant Professor of Technical Communication, for his technical support and the use of photography equipment; Kay Eccleston, Instructor of Technical Communication, for her guidance in photographic print production; Dr. Grant Mitman, Professor of Biology, for his assistance withframing and matting; and Dr. Pat Munday, Professor of Science & Technology Studies, for his support and advice throughout the project, and for his insights into the interface between science and communication.
