Be the voice of reason, I have said many times. I have thought and prayed about sharing about Ebola. So many are frightened and should be. A virus that has no vaccine and no cure is terrifying. Having spent time in Liberia, I want to share with you why I believe Ebola is spreading like wildfire there and to contrast the circumstances to here in the US. I believe the reason behind the massive out break is 2 prong: lack of infrastructure, and cultural and societal norms. After a 14 year civil war (I wont even talk about our govts role in this), there is absolutely no infrastructure. First and foremost: Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids. Just a imagine a place where there is no where to potty or to wash your hands. A place where you have to be careful not to step in human feces every step you take. In my next two posts, I want to talk about nonexistent healthcare and cultural norms that are perpetuating the outbreak. This is not meant to spark a debate just to inform.
