Bear in mind that while poaching is the chief and most pressing factor in the disappearance of those animals, many indirect factors also play a substantive role. Include here the constant wars and global dislocations and distractions caused by conflict on the political and economic fronts issuing from a world that is literally rudderless (in terms of good leadership) and dominated by corrupt elites that generate poverty everywhere they rule—which is practically every corner of the planet—a fact that allows for habitat destruction on a massive scale, and the unchecked growth in human population.
