Bears Adventure on 4/6/2014. I get a call from Sharla Clark around 11:28 am this morning. Its not odd for her to call me and see how I am feeling or doing. Thought maybe she was calling to tell me Penny was doing great or she just wanted to talk while she was at a vendor show. She tells me Bear escaped. My heart stops! No time for details. I dont even change my clothes from last night. I get ready and leave. Yep, no teeth brushing , nothing. You can say ewww but No time to waste getting clean and pretty when a rescue dog or any dog is in missing ! I contacted Andrew and he starts heading there first. I updated FB and did some things here first. I arrive on location and check in to see where everyone has looked. I passed out a stack of Rescue cards to Andrew Cherry and to Ben the foster dad so they could hand out incase people saw they had my info . What a great way to advertise too ( wink) but of course I didnt think about that until later. We walked and walked talking to people explaining he was friendly and would come to them. HA- didnt know he had gone to FLIGHT MODE! Explained he was up to date on shots and been neutered in the past 1 1/2 weeks-- See this is where I think the problem lies. He keeps escaping out the front door when it opens because he has been studded for 7 years and he just got neutered and lots of female dogs in this neighborhood. I am sure he wants out not realizing he cant knock a girl up :) . Trust me, extra precaution has been taken to make sure THIS DOESNT HAPPEN AGAIN. As soon as Freckles gets his foster- he is also coming to my house. So anyways.. I had left to go get a drink , use the restroom and pass a few fliers to some businesses. I rent through apartment complex next to the neighborhood when I get a call from someone in the neighborhood where Sharla and Ben live saying what street he is on and where he was heading. This call came in at 4:59 I rush over there and I find him on the street underneath a vehicle. I jump out asking if he had been hit and the guy said no . I said I am sorry he had been on the run since this morning. I called out for Bear to come to me. At first he looked like he was and then he kept running past me . I knew right then HE WAS IN FLIGHT MODE. Some teen said Ill Chase him and I said NO YOU WONT . I said please dont!!! I got in my car and followed him. Rolled my window down and called for him and said come home to mommy , daddy, freckles, penny and just started naming names that he would recognize. Nothing worked. I sped up and cut him off and he wouldnt even look at me.. He was in full force running. He turns down a street and cuts through this fence and heads to a parking lot with I HOP and food lion toward Warwick BLVD. Exactly WHAT WE DIDNT WANT. I backed up and headed to Bens house. Ran in and said I need you to go around this way, Ill go back to where I last saw him. He went through the parking lot, I took the bushes and fence line. We met at another small road and waited as a BLRR fan called me at 5:15 saying she could come help. I explained she could but we needed to not scare him but keep him in our sight. She was on her way. While we were waiting and coming up with a game plan, Ben said to me I really want to go across to the other woods. I said go for it since we are waiting. Something was calling him over there. As he crosses the street he looks to the right toward Warwick BLVD ( 4 lane BUSY HWY ) and said HE CROSSED IT. OMG!! So he takes off and I start running toward the bushes to where I am going to meet the lady. I tripped right into a torn bush. Dont run in flip flops !! Or with Fibro or arthritis people! Not smart . I start hearing horns blaring and look over to see cars stopping. My heart is stopping and I am just waiting to hear a dog get hit. I am screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Ben runs into traffic. Then I see Ben and Bear running down the MIDDLE of the blvd. Yes. You arent suppose to chase a dog in flight mode but he had to do it to stop traffic and keep him safe. He was trying to chase him off the blvd and back into another neighborhood. It finally worked and he crossed over to the other side of the blvd once again. Here I am with a little blood, holding signs and a leash waiting on the volunteer watching Ben and Bear get further away from me but knowing he is going toward a safe area and away from traffic. Once she got there to meet me , we rush in my car and head to the other area. I had never been so scared in my life . Andrea had shown up with her hubby and was on that side looking for Ben and any sighting and couldnt find them. So at 535 Sharla calls me and says BEN HAS HIM AND THEY ARE AT HOME. SAY WHAT ? How ? He is in flight mode !!! I am shocked!!!! Andrea finds me, I thank her and I take our BLRR volunteer back to her car and I get back there and rush in to find out HOW!!! What happened was Our boy Bear finally ran out of steam!!!! He stops for a few seconds and a lady pulled up who knew what was going on and opened up her car door and was talking to Bear for a few minutes and asked him if he wanted a ride. And he jumped in. Then she took Ben and Bear back to Bens truck and he took him home. What a miracle. Thank you Bear for running for 7 hrs straight and finally getting tired enough to trust some stranger to hop in her car but NOT TRUST ME you little CHIT lol . Those last 30 mins or so were so scary for both Ben and I that were on foot . I really thought we were been writing that he had been hit by a car and passed away or taking to ER and deceased. I really thought BLRR would have had their first death. That we would be having a cremation. Never in a million years did I think we would be bringing him home any other way than that. Through prayers, advice, learning from Bring Rudy Home , Brownie ( my heart dog who passed on 12-12-12 ) and other angels.. This boy is SAFE!!!! 7 hrs on the run . When I realized he was in FLIGHT MODE , I honestly thought this was going to be many days/weeks before we got him. Thank you all for watching and staying tuned today for this.
