Bears swap out tight ends With the drop from 90 to 75 roster spots still more than three weeks away, the Bears are tinkering with the tight end position. Out is Brody Eldridge; in is veteran Leonard Pope. Pope has 51 starts in a seven-season career that started in Arizona, continued in Kansas City, and most recently extended to Pittsburgh. Pope has 105 catches for 982 yards and 11 touchdowns. Eldridge has made 27 appearances and 16 starts in two years with the Colts. He bounced on and off the Bears’ roster last season before re-signing in January. In June 2011, when Pope otherwise would have been at a minicamp but for the lockout, he dove into a pool with cellphone, keys, and all saved the life of six-year-old Bryson Moore.
