Beasts of Yeast vs Stumped Mullets, 27/7/14 Another round, another epic. Beasts loss the toss and were put in to bat. Runs were hard to come by due to both tight bowling from Dean (0-13 from 5), Paul and Sticky and a shag-pile outfield, though Gibbo cleared it entirely twice in his 23 that set up the innings nicely, with the Beasts at 3/64 at drinks. Afterward, PJ (50 retired) and myself (55 retired) put the foot down as much as possible, though I reckon Sticky (who ended with 1-23 from 5) might be the unluckiest bowler going around, putting in a couple of overs at the end of his spell that should not have gone for nearly as many runs as they did. PJ, Todd and Pete played smart cricket in the final overs to get the total to 4/178 from our 30. Other bowlers to take wickets were Dan (1-15 from 2) and Anchovy (1-18 from 4) The Mullets innings got off to a steady start, and some really tight bowling from Dougie (0-5 from 5) and Danos (1-8 from 5) kept the runs right down. Thing sped up a bit when I came on to bowl, and the Mullets were 1/41 at drinks. Similar tale in the second innings - things accelerated rapidly almost immediately after drinks. Dean (36) and Chris B (52 retired) went ballistic, and were ably followed by Antho M/Anchovy (17) and Nat M (29 not out). Lots of momentum swings in the back 10 overs, with a real game set up with the Mullets needing 39 off the final 3 overs. 10 from number 28, 10 from number 29 and 14 from number 30, finishing just four runs shy of the Beasts total at 6/174. It was a bloody close run thing that went right to the penultimate ball where a huge snick that would have gone for four was intercepted by Dougies forehead - a match-saving header that would have done Tim Cahill proud. Another sensational game of cricket played in excellent spirit - this is becoming a decent rivalry and Im not the only Beast who cant wait to play the Mullets again. Thanks again for a great day.
