Beatles Song of the Day: You Never Give Me Your Money, Sun King, Mean Mr Mustard, Polythene Pam, She Came In Through the Bathroom (Medley) You Never Give Me Your Money is a song by the Beatles that opens the climactic medley on side two of the album Abbey Road. It was written by Paul McCartney and is credited to Lennon–McCartney. The song was composed in the midst of the break-up of the band. Like other tracks on the album the song, Sun King features lush multi-tracked vocal harmonies, provided by Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison. The working title was Here Comes the Sun King, but was shortened to Sun King to avoid confusion with Harrisons Here Comes the Sun. The song slowly fades in from the harbor sounds at the end of You Never Give Me Your Money. At the end of the song, the music stops abruptly and a drum fill by Ringo Starr leads into the next track, Mean Mr. Mustard. On the album Abbey Road, the song is linked with Sun King as Mean Mr. Mustard runs together with Polythene Pam. The two songs are also linked narratively, since Mean Mr. Mustard mentions that the title character Mustard has a sister named Pam. Originally, the line his sister Pam... in the song was his sister Shirley..., but Lennon would change the line to contribute to the continuity of the Abbey Road side two medley. The rhythm track of She Came Into the Bathroom Window was recorded by the Beatles for this and Polythene Pam as one piece on 25 July 1969. After take 39, they added lead vocals, and re-recorded the drums and bass parts. On 28 July they added more vocals, guitar, percussion and piano. The song was completed two days later with additional guitar and percussion. She Came In Through the Bathroom Window segues abruptly after Polythene Pam, the song on the preceding track, without pause. At the very beginning of the song, in anticipation of the change of tempo, John Lennon says well listen to that Mal (referring to Mal Evans)... heh-heh and then shouts Oh, look out! Most Beatles fan agree this is one of the best Beatles set of songs to grace an album. youtube/watch?v=JPTSoc9CZUg
