Beautifully written, just wanted to share Our addictions want us to believe that we are broken... "He/she/they/it broke me." Our addictions want us to obsess.. ah, yes, obsess, obsess, obsess.. obsession is the toxic elixir of the addictive mind. And what do we obsess about? Two things: the past or the future. We ruminate, we dwell, we fester, we rewrite. Woulda, coulda, shoulda is the mantra of looking back. The obsessive thoughts, once ignited, spread like wild fire. From the past, our thoughts jump to the future where fears jump out from the shadows of the unknown. Our addictions love us to obsess. Silence your mind, our addictions whisper. "Take a drink, take a bite, pop a pill, just f*cking flick the lighter upon the spoon, my friend... and the thoughts will all stop." Cunning, baffling, powerful and oh so very patient. No! No! No! STAY IN THE NOW. The past is complete. The future is but an illusion. If we stay in the NOW (in this precise moment/second of time), we will come to see that all is okay... all is perfect... you breathing. You are blinking. You are reading this.. that is all.. that is staying in the NOW. And in that moment, that moment of being present to the sounds outside, to the wind upon your face, to the words upon this page.. in that moment the obsessions are no more, the addiction slithers back into the shadows and the light of Grace -- the love of what is -- lightens your being, your spirit, your soul.. and you are free... in that moment you are free.....
