Mike Baranyay @ 915.564-7322 or 915.564-6950 Pager#1653 Police Warn of Likely Ticket Scam Date/Time: 09-19-14 Location: UTEP – Sun Bowl (One Direction Concert) EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso Police Department is seeking to take a proactive stance against the sale of counterfeit ticket or ticket related scams for the upcoming One Direction concert being held this Friday at the Sun Bowl. In the past, the El Paso Police Department has received reports of fraudulent tickets being sold for high profile events such as the Sun Bowl Game or other concerts. The victims often report purchasing resale tickets through various web sources. These tickets may appear to be legitimate or, in most cases, are legitimate tickets. What occurs that makes this a scam is, the offenders make multiple copies of the same ticket and sell the ticket to numerous people. What will occur in these cases is the first person to present the ticket at the gate will be granted access to the event. Every person who presents the same ticket after that will be turned away. In order to avoid falling victim to this scam please be cognizant of whom you are buying the tickets from. Purchase tickets from reputable resale sites and not simply through an individual who you are not familiar with or you feel may be taking advantage of you. Avoid a “great deal”, remember the old adage, “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is”. If you are going to purchase tickets through an individual attempt to get their identification and if nothing else take note of the vehicle and license plate of the person who sells you the ticket. A photo of the individual would also assist investigators. We anticipate many people will be victimized by this scam and encourage victims to contact police and report the incident through our Word Processing Unit at 915-832-4436. They will complete the report over the phone and provide you a case number. We anticipate the majority of complaints being filed either the day of the event or after the event when the victim is denied access to the concert. ### Det.
