Because I will be in a different country on July 1st, I wish - TopicsExpress

Because I will be in a different country on July 1st, I wish everyone a fantastic Canada Day, Ill be celebrating from Washington state. I think Canada Day should not only be a time of party and patriotism, but a reflection on our past, present, and future. Its important to remember how this country came to be, we need to make note of the work achieved, but also, and more importantly recognize the great hardships faced by aboriginal people since white contact. Canada Day should be a reflection of not only of our pride as a country, but the story that has been created since its birth, whether it be the good moments, or the regrettable ones. We must keep in mind where we are now, and how our actions of the present, will impact the future. I wont make any political accusations, because thats not the point. The votes we will cast in any election effect how we progress in society, and regardless of political bias, those votes are involved in a timeline of outcomes. What I find interesting, is that these outcomes, whether we like them or not can be a positive thing, because they create a foundation of where we want to be, if we dislike it, then we can change, and thats whats positive about it. Choosing to play the cynic freezes our ability to move forward, because we do have the power to unite and change things for the better, being the cynic prevents us from coming out of our shell and showing our potential, no matter how negative we feel. So for this Canada Day, feel proud about what we have created, for instance our universal health care, Canadian Peacekeeping, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and reflect on where we want to go from here. Our excitement about the future will fuel our societal progression, and if we remember our past, and use it as a blueprint to act on a plan, we will create a better life for road that lies ahead.
