Because Joshua Joshua Palmer apparently has a death wish, I have completed the ALS Ice Bucket challenge. I have tagged Christen Orndorff, Ali Ahmad and Todd Gilbert. However, Im giving them a third option. Charitable giving for medical research is a great thing, but it should always be a personal decision. It should also be done wisely. Just because its social doesnt mean its the charity for you if you want to make a real impact. Thats why these three can get out by giving $60 to a research focused ALS or broader neurological foundation that spends 85% or more of its funds on programs as according to CharityNavigator. If they decide to go the traditional routes, give to a charity that meets those parameters--and encourage those you may tag to do likewise. Because social giving is great, but smart giving is even better.
