Because Superman never broken. He doesnt need a fix!: Its really great that you read and like Batman, Wolverine, Deadpool, any other superhero comic that you wanna throw in here. I support that. Im glad you like superhero comics, but you are existing in the house that Superman built because he was the first superhero. With the superhero genre standing as the most dominant presence in the field of comics, its Superman who built the foundation and the walls and the roof. There would not be a superhero genre if Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster hadnt put a red S in a shield and a cape on a man who could bounce bullets off his chest and you can play your what if?s. Well you dont know that. What if they had the superhero genre...? Thats great. Your what if?s are great, but guess what. Thats not the way it happened. Now if you wanna throw terms like cliche, outdated, and cheesy at Superman, thats cool. Hes Superman. He can take it, but hes cliche because hes the original. Hes not outdated, hes a classic that has sold more books, DVDs, action figures, and assorted merchandise than any other character on the market. Why is that? Because hes been around longer than they have and until The New 52, he had two books that were in continuous publication for decades -- a feat shared by few other characters. This happened across wars, generation, presidents, scandals, and more. And how is it cheesy to simply help other people when its a talent you posses? Why is it a shame to stand up and stick your neck out with the only conflict being how can I do more? I dont see the problem with selflessness or positivity or idealism. We could use that in the real world where people shoot up schools and movie theaters, so enjoy your heroes, but if youre coming to the superhero genre, wipe your feet, mind your manners because the superhero genre is the party that Superman threw; everyone else is just a guest. And Action Comics #775 inspired that sentiment. It said what needed to be said and Im going to repeat it and Ill repeat it again and again and again. Superman aint broken. - J.
