“Because each of us has a unique gift, we each walk in our gifting differently. You can’t compare your gift to anyone else’s, and when you walk in your own gift, a few things will follow. Love is one, wisdom is another.” Dr. Caroline Leaf. The Gift in You. A miracle happened when I decided to publicly raise funds for surgery to remove a dangerous brain tumor and safe my life in 2005. All of a sudden, my brain became a sponge, absorbing and retaining knowledge easily. This was the time I just lost my hearing and struggling to adapt. Everybody started to say I was smart and intelligent. At the beginning, I felt undeserving of their praise as I always thought that I wasn’t smart enough. My exam results in secondary school were crap. As the years progressed, I slowly began to accept that I was intelligent and told myself to stop feeling small. I started to think that maybe God did me a favor by heightening my brain latency in 2005, so that I could continue living and pursue a higher purpose – I did promise Him that I will do so when I raise enough funds and have the lifesaving brain surgery I so wanted. I met an American Neuroscientist named Dr. Carolene Leaf at a conference recently. Dr. Leaf has been studying the human brain and the science of thought for over thirty years. She uncovered several groundbreaking findings in her research. One of them is that each of us process information in the brain through different sequence. Our brain functions are similar, but the order of processing differs. Every stimuli or information we receive with our five senses stimulates all seven thought-processing parts of the brain. But at different degrees and order. This understanding tells me what happened exactly when my intellect was suddenly heightened in 2005. 1. I formed a goal and intent. I wanted to raise funds to save my life. 2. With this strong intention in mind, my brain responded and became receptive to learning. 3. God did His part too, by bringing the right people into my life to guide and point me in the right direction, to support my intellectual development. 4. When I pick up new information or knowledge, they were processed in my brain and stored in long-term memory. This chemical activity of thought-processing also stimulated existing knowledge or what they call “latent intelligence” which I have acquired throughout my life so far, bringing them to my conscious mind. 5. My mind and brain has remained sensitive to information input ever since. In other words, my intelligence leapt because I used my brain at a much faster speed and frequency suddenly. The saying that you either use your brain or lose it is true. The saying that God helps those who help themselves is also true. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I feel safe and self-assured because I have knowledge that keeps me safe whatever happens (wisdom). By utilizing my mental and physiological gifts, I have also found Love – God’s Love.
