Because of Im excited about the Portland Trail Blazers 106-89 season opening victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder I wanted to just talk about the 2014-15 NBA season for a minute. As the season gets started this week Im very excited about my Blazers. I think the additions of veterans Steve Blake and Chris Kaman are huge as their main struggle last year was the bench. Portlands three time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge had a great night putting up 27 points as well as 2 blocks. Their other All-Star Damian Lillard didnt get his first point till the 3rd quarter but ended up with 10 points and 5 assists. The Thunder got an outstanding game from their three time All-Star Russell Westbrook as he put up 38 points and 6 assists. However without the reigning MVP Kevin Durant the Thunder couldnt sustain their hot shooting start as the Blazers dominated the 4th quarter outscoring them 31-12. Thunder will stay out west to play the LA Clippers on Thursday in another nationally televised game as the Blazers will travel to Sacramento on friday to play the Kings. In the other ESPN game the Chicago Bulls thrashed the NY Knicks 104-80 as Derek Rose returned from his season ending injury in 2013 with 13 points in 21 minutes. Perhaps the most exciting game of the night was the Charlotte Bobcats and the Milwaukee Bucks. Bobcats star Kemba Walker hit a three at the end of regulation the force overtime and then hit the game winner with 5 seconds left in the extra period for a final score of 108-106. Walker finished with the game high 26 points. As hard as Im rooting for the Blazers my pick for the NBA finals has to be the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs return most of the key pieces from their championship team in 2013 and have the experience and drive to do something they have not done yet which is win back to back titles. And the Bulls have a good core and finally, hopefully, Rose will return to the days when he was arguably the most agile and dynamic player in the league.
