Because of my recent career flux, I had to explore the Exchange - TopicsExpress

Because of my recent career flux, I had to explore the Exchange today. To the point: the Affordable Care Act is neither affordable, nor caring, but it certainly was an act. I need coverage for my daughter and myself only as my wife is covered by her disability insurance. Even with a subsidy of $249 a month, it was still considerably more expensive to get the cheapest coverage with a much higher deductible than short term catastrophic care. The exchange policy would only cover me. Madison would be shifted over to Hoosier Healthcare because she is not 18. But Hoosier Healthcare would reject her, I was told. I forget the reasons. Anyway she would then be eligible to be added to my exchange policy. But that could take weeks to be resolved and then Id have to go through the application process again to add her. Meanwhile, there would be no coverage for her at all. Ironically, the catastrophic care policy, in addition to have a deductible 1/4 --yes that is 1/4-- that of the Obamacare policy was nearly the same coverage! Whats more, because the catastrophic care policy doesnt meet government minimum standards, it doesnt count as approved insurance, so people who use it are subject to having the penalty withheld from their tax returns, if they get one, or pay the penalty if they dont. Although theres a chance Ill have to pay a penalty, its still cheaper than the most affordable Affordable insurance.
