Because of ‘safety’ reasons…gun ranges are divided into ‘lanes’ almost like a bowling alley…as a result, shooters are ‘stuck’ standing upright in a ‘static’ line…as a result, they virtually never get the chance to even try the two most important, basic tactical skills…even those who participate in so-called combat pistol competitions end up eventually sacrificing the benefits of these two skills in exchange for ‘points’ against a target or group of targets who are not shooting at them. The two basic skills are movement and, what’s commonly called cover. Movement, however, is not ‘run’n & gun’n’. there is aggressive movement, evasive movement and dynamic movement and combinations thereof…cover concepts involve obstructions, concealment, soft cover and hard cover…hard cover meaning something that will stop a bullet…very few things in our environment will and even that depends are what is being shot at you…there are some amazingly simple things that can be taught here that anyone can use regardless of age, gender, physical condition, even physical disabilities…but, one of the most amazing things, since some of you like stats…use of these two skills can increase survival probability by as much as 70%...look at the officer killed states in the years leading up to the Miami/FBI shootout…look at the decline in those numbers beginning in 1990, after the lessons learned from Miami began to filter out into the LE community…two reasons…the increase in the use of cover and movement in training programs…
