Because of the recent news about the deadly Yarnell fire, we have had many inquiries regarding the status of the James 4-H Camp at Mingus Springs. The active fires in Arizona are a long way away from Mingus Springs and pose no danger at present. The Yarnell fire is approximately 35 miles to the Southwest of Prescott. The Doce Fire is located approximately 8 miles northwest of Prescott, AZ near Granite Mountain Recreation Area and is in the “mop up“ stages. The James 4-H Camp at Mingus Springs is located 20 miles Northeast of Prescott in the Prescott National Forest. Everyone at camp currently is safe and not in danger. We also do not expect to cancel any future camps. We have been in contact with 4-H families in the Prescott Valley area to monitor the smoke situation. Things are fine. We have an emergency plan and are in regular and constant contact with the Prescott Forest Service staff. Because of the number of private homes in the area, many people are monitoring of the situation. Hope for rain and an early end to all these fires.
