Because some of our students and professors come from climates much different from our own, a few things you should know about current predicted weather conditions: Special Weather Statement Issued for Corpus Christi The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the City of Corpus Christi and surrounding cities for the next few days. The combination of warm temperatures and high dew points will produce heat indices between 105 and 109 degrees today. A few locations may briefly hit or exceed 110 degrees. The City of Corpus Christi reminds citizens heat-related illnesses can range from heat cramps to heat exhaustion, to heat stroke. Heat stroke requires immediate medical attention. Below is additional information on heat overexposure and staying cool: Signs of Heat Overexposure - Heavy sweating (If heat stroke sets in, the body can no longer compensate and stops sweating.) - Pale skin - Muscle cramps - Feeling tired and weak - Altered mental status (confusion or disorientation) - Headache - Becoming semi-conscious, or passing out. - Nausea or vomiting Tips for Stay Cool - Modify your activities appropriately. - Drink plenty of fluids. - Try to stay in relatively cool areas, even when outside. Many public places are air conditioned such as libraries, shopping malls and movie theatres. - Avoid hot enclosed places, such as cars. Never leave children, the elderly or pets unattended in a hot car. - Use a fan, if available. - Eat well-balanced, light and regular meals. - Wear loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothing.
