Because technology has changed the world, 5 day a week postal - TopicsExpress

Because technology has changed the world, 5 day a week postal delivery is no longer necessary, so I dont think anyone would have an issue with reducing it to two or three days a week. Instead of allowing attrition to phase out letter carriers, what we should be doing is getting rid of those wretched super boxes that are such a trial, especially to so many senior and disabled citizens, and resuming postal delivery to all Canadian homes. Canada Post currently holds a monopoly on postal mail delivery. If this entity is not willing to keep up its end of the postal backbone and deliver mail to homes, perhaps its time for Canada Post to lose its privileged status and be rebranded, perhaps as Canada Private Post, and a new national postal mail delivery could be established. Canada Private Post would vacate all the existing assets, equipment, real estate and infrastructure that has been paid for by Canadian tax dollars. Canada Private Post could be offered the opportunity to retain any assets that have been purchased with more than 50% of private dollars, so long as Canada Private Post reimburses the restructured Canada Post at fair market rates. And of course all current postal workers would be allowed to transfer to whichever of the two entities they choose. It might be an idea to reorganize the new Canada Post into a co-op type of business entity to ensure that everyone -- workers and Canadians -- are served by this new public service monopoly.
