Because the prison industrial complex would rather kill black folks in the streets to uphold white supremacy than serve justice in any courtroom. When black and brown folks take to the streets demanding justice, white people declare a national emergency. When black and brown folks are gunned down by the police, white people come up with every possible justification imaginable so as to ignore the racist violence enacted by white people against black and brown people. Whatever the outcome of the grand jury decision, black people are (still) going to be blamed, shamed, and criminalized. Also, notice in this article the mayors strategic use of the phrases protecting constitutional rights and protect civil rights and ensure public safety. Translation: keeping white folks safe from those inherently criminalistic and animalistic black people destroying our upstanding civilized white society.
