Because the show Ill be doing wrapping up this look back at 1984 is now less than a week away, Ill be posting at least one entry a day of an item I may not have talked about until now, or something I might have mentioned but is worth mentioning again. The Dream Syndicate are one of those bands that I heard about by flipping through the new records at the radio station. The Medicine Show was their second album, and because it was on a major label, some of the band members wanted to make a big statement kind of record. Steve Wynn recalls on his website he wanted, ... to make a beautiful loser, button-pushing, over-the-top emotional catharsis in the tradition of most of my all-time favorite records (i.e.. Big Star 3rd, Tonights The Night, Plastic Ono Band, etc.). We both got our way-- and in ways that neither of us could have predicted. I think it was this improbable collision of desires and personality that gives Medicine Show its character. stevewynn.net/medicine_show.php I recall playing this record a lot, and looking for their debut in the station library and liking that even more, but I never owned copies of either album. Maybe thats why they didnt stick with me as much as other records of the time. But when I think of these songs now, they are easy to recall and replay in my head. https://youtube/watch?v=O-n4y2saPVY
