Become a Host Family Since 2007, the Upper Canada District - TopicsExpress

Become a Host Family Since 2007, the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has had the pleasure of welcoming international students into its high schools as part of its successful International Education Program. This fall, we have record numbers enrolled, with nearly 240 students in high school programs throughout the region, and an additional 100 students on short-term study visits. We have students from 20 different countries, including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, India, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Colombia. During their stay in the Upper Canada region, our international students live with local families. Host families tell us that welcoming an international student into their home has changed their lives. Developing life-long friendships and learning about cultures different than their own has been enriching and enjoyable. Students and host families alike have benefitted from the experience. The Canada Homestay Network (CHN), our partner in this program, will be hosting information sessions at five locations over the next month. Families can investigate this opportunity at various locations in the board. Among the subjects discussed will be the support offered to both hosts and students, including pre-arrival orientations, ongoing access to a professional Relationship Manager, 24/7 emergency assistance, and a generous host stipend to offset expenses. We invite anyone interested in becoming a homestay family to attend one of the sessions detailed below: RUSSELL HIGH SCHOOL 982 North Russell Road, Russell Cafetorium Monday, Nov. 25, 6:30pm to 8:30pm UPPER CANADA LEGER CENTRE FOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING 1500 Cumberland Street, Cornwall Conference Room Tues.
