Becoming an Effective Front Desk Receptionist Front desk receptionists represent the face of the hotel. They are commonly the first and sometimes only people to greet visitors. They must be able to communicate properly and professionally and must be able to multitask. The front desk clerks plays a crucial roles in bringing revenue to the hotel business because they are also the ones that make the guest reservations. A front desk receptionist must be able to perform a wide variety of tasks. They are expected to greet customers arriving and leaving the hotel, and they must treat the customer with respect and courtesy. As a receptionist, they are responsible for answering all incoming phone calls, customer reservations, and bookings. They must manage and handle customer’s concerns and phone calls, and also distribute all mail in and out of the hotel. They have to organize which room the client may choose and manage the security of the room keys for each hotel room. Beside greeting people, answering phone calls and keeping room keys, they also perform clerical tasks and which typically require some knowledge with computers. They must be able to create a daily reports, maintain customer history and records and always update their clients by sending them emails. These things are all part of a front desk receptionist responsibility according to a report issued by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2009. A successful front desk receptionist must be highly organized, a good communicator, proficient in multitasking and always dressed neatly. Understanding these facts with your mind and heart and putting this understanding into practice will lead you in becoming an effective receptionist.
