Now the environmental impact of food is going to be considered in what is healthy and what is not. Why is this a big deal? The vegans have long been claiming that meat production is leading to global warming as I shared in this 2007 blog post: livinlavidalowcarb/blog/pcrm-overkill-blames-low-carb-meat-eaters-for-global-warming/1963 So if the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee deems red meat, for example, is causing harm to the environment, then they will discourage Americans from consuming what is a perfectly healthy part of the human diet.
