Been casting my mind back to the working days of the 70s which were so much better than now.... I would hate to be working in todays environment of power hungry firms and companies who quite honestly dont give a hoot for thir workers. Dont want to get too far into that line of discussion, so Ill carry on with the one of the happiest working times I had, working for Uncle Sam at Burtonwood Army base. Around about this time of the year, things tended to slacken off a bit and we were allowed a bit more time to do what we wanted... extended break times were taken for instance. Our job was to care for the Army equipment.... you name it- we took careof it. Our section was roughly divided into 2 parts, one was for servicing the vehicles, and modifying them where needed, the other side where I mainly worked was in charge of all the other bits and pieces.... beds, field hospitals, Parachutes, weaponry etc. On the whole we were a happy bunch of people most of the time. Two of my best mates were from the vehicle side, John Shaw from Liverpool who was an excellent guitarist as well as motor mechanic! John was a Beatles fanatic and was great at playing their songs. Sure wish Id kept in touch after I left the base, but thats another story entirely.Another guy named Al (cant remember his full name unfortunately) was a member of a semi pro group of singers. Well, one day, John actually brought his guitar into work! On an extended break, he Al and I gave an impromptu little concert. John and most everyone who worked there knew of my love for the Lettermen and good harmony music, so the 2 main songs I can remember doing were Nowhere man (dedicated by John to our boss!) and This Boy Not to blow our trumpet too much, but I thought we sounded great!! Its a wonder we didnt get a recording contract.......I seriously wish we had recorded it ourselves, but at least I have the great memory of it!
